Blacked Out

I hope everyone was able to stay safe during the storms we've been having. Luckily I only suffered a night without power (as long as it still stays on). My night of  crafting turned into a romantic night with my boyfriend by default (candles have that effect), and although I love crafting I was still very happy!

DUM DUM DUM DUMMMM...

So I made these awhile ago and was waiting for the perfect chance to get a picture in them which has not happened yet so I decided to take matters into my own hands. Here are my POLKA DOT PANTS! I used a white fabric marker and a circle stencil I cut out of an old itunes card and then went to town on them. TA DA...

They'er super fun to wear and they were fun to make.  Try it out yourself and let me know what they look like!

Tie it up!

So this Alice + Olivia sweater has been out since the spring but that doesn’t mean it’s not new to me. I saw someone wearing one today and almost drooled on the poor girl’s shoes. When I imagine it while sitting here I’d like to think it has “DIY, DIY, DIY” written all over it. I can’t wait to make one! Have you already seen it or even tried to make one yourself? Let me know!

Last Minute Halloween

Halloween is right around the corner and I have to say my mother may be disappointed with that fact that I haven’t decorated one bit. My mother loves Halloween, and every other holiday, because she gets to do two of her favorite things, decorate and dress up. She builds these elaborate graveyards in the front of the house with almost anything she can get her hands on and the neighborhood loves them!

THIS is not something I am able to do in my apartment obviously but with this article on BuzzFeed you could have a festive house in NO time. The jacks o’ lanterns made from oranges are so cute and I bet they smell good too. If my mother can send pictures to me of the graveyard I’ll definitely let you guys take a peak. Finally, if you do end up making some Halloween DIY I loved to see it!

Plastic Inspiration

So I have been thinking about trying to make a necklace I saw a while back made out of melted plastic bottles. Once you warp the sides a little bit with fire it resembles a flower. The only problem is is that I can’t seem to find the original diy instructions I saw that inspired me but looking at Street Peeper I found this picture which made me really want to work with plastic as a jewelry medium:

I love it! Also, while looking for the original directions that I didn’t find, I found this flower made out of plastic spoons!

I'll report back with my creations, hopefully with minimal burns. Cross your fingers

Crayon Art

Stumbling around the Internet this past summer "crayon art" was everywhere like herehere, and here  and I wanted to be a part of it! A lot of the tutorials had you gluing crayons to a canvas and then using a blow dyer but (like the last link example) I used a hot glue gun. After I drew and colored the design with permanent marker, I peeled the paper off of the crayons and just piped it through the gun. I personally had to take out the glue gun "trigger" because the hole was too small but you could just get a bigger glue gun! Here was the outcome...

I want to make two more to represent all four seasons eventually but, as you may be able to figure out, I have crafters short term attention span, so it'll be a project for another day!

My Midi Ring

Last night I decided I finally wanted to make myself a midi ring, so I did. They look awesome and are super easy to make. All you need is some copper (or other color) jewelry wire and some small needle nose pliers. Bend them in any way you want and just make sure they don't go past your knuckle. I even made a design in the back so that I can flip them around!

I do apologize again for the clarity of my pictures, they will be better soon I promise.

Studded Bracelet

I know I’m not alone in my recent love of studs. I ordered a pack on Amazon for a few bucks and waited very impatiently for them to arrive. When they finally did I had a slew of thing’s I knew I already wanted to put them on. The first thing I decided to go for was a handmade bracelet. I knew I wanted to do a certain weave type of “friendship bracelets” but for the life of me I cannot find its specific name and for that I do apologize, but no worries I’ll inform you on how to create it!
Materials:
1.       Utility cording ( a yard)
2.       Yarn (4 feet)
·         My yarn and cording measurements are longer than needed for this project but I like to always use extra just in case.
3.       Copper wire
4.       Scissors
5.       Hot glue gun
6.       A lighter
7.       Tape (or something to hold down your bracelet while you work on it.)
8.       Jewelry Pliers (optional)
Getting Started:
Take your cording and fold it in half, then proceed to wrap the middle with about 5in. of carding but make sure to leave a small look at the end.

I wrapped the wire for about a quarter of an inch and just tried to tuck the end of wire in between the two sides of cording. Next, you’ll need to also fold your yarn in half and secure it right under the wire with a simple knot.
Take either side of yarn and cross it over top of the cording. Then take one side of yarn and fold it under the cording and through the loop that on the other side. Do this for both sides.
It should look like this before you pull it tight. Continue to do this until the bracelet is long enough to fit around your wrist and tie it off at the end (you can put a little glue to keep it from unknotting in the future). I then made a ring out of the wire that will fit both pieces of cording through it but be snug enough not to move.
Cut the cording down so you can get it on and off without pulling the cording out of the ring. You can then use a lighter to melt the end of the cording a small amount so that it doesn’t fray.
Finally, is adding the studs! Mine came with little “prongs” I suppose you could call them, on the back so that you can fold them down to secure them but the yarn was too thick. I used hot glue to secure them on to the bracelet. After this steps TA DA! You’re done. It took me no time at all and it’s super cute.

You're a Stud ;)

Coming soon...

I’ve had such a busy week and I’m off to another state again this weekend but I’ve been trying all week to get some of the new stuff I’ve been making up here with not much luck. So in the mean time I’d like to post a few sneak peeks to what I’ve been working on (let me tell you I can’t wait to get the new Iphone5 so my pictures will be not only easier to take but look much better)  and hopefully I’ll come home Sunday with a head FULL inspiration. I mean I am going to the city that never sleeps!

Studded bracelet (other bracelet seen is from Club Monaco)
POLKA pants

And these are some items I will be working on as well…

I can't wait to share all of these projects with you!
Have a great weekend!

Picture Perfect

This morning, as I sit back to take a breath I realized the last few weeks have gone by incredibly fast. Just a few days ago one of my oldest and dearest friends still held her very own last name and now she’s sharing a new one with the man she plans on spending an un-countable amount of years together. That being said, I was extremely lucky to be in a wedding this past weekend and all of the hustle and bustle has left me away from my computer, and crafts, for quite some time. No fear though, I have plenty of crafts previously made that I’d love to share.
The wedding was beautiful and had plenty of breathtaking moments that were caught in pictures, but frames can become expensive when you want to start hanging those pictures up. Why not make you own with simple materials that way there’s no chance they won’t match your own decor.
I got the idea from one of my favorite diy blogs = blog.freepeople.com (specifically from here http://blog.freepeople.com/2010/11/wednes-diy-48/) I followed there directions and then added some color by using gel pens (I remember the days when I LIVED for gel pens) The bold colors really helped me to add the jewel tone I was going for. This project is awesome because the options are bottomless. Make them smaller or bigger, cover them in paper or magazine clippings, just go nuts! I can’t wait to make more and as always feel free to share your projects with me.

p.s.- don’t think I’ve forgotten about those polka dots! The outcome is shortly on it’s way!
